The Shipping Minister, John Hayes, launched a new pamphlet \u2018Open for Maritime Skills\u2019 at Trinity House, together with Maritime UK Chairman Jeffrey Evans and UK Chamber staff.<\/p>\n
The pamphlet is the second in a series, following last year\u2019s highly successful \u2018Open for Maritime Business\u2019 document which was launched by the Prime Minister and Transport Secretary during London International Shipping Week.<\/p>\n
\u2018Open for Maritime Skills\u2019 sets out why the UK is one of the most preeminent countries in the world for maritime training \u2013 covering seafaring, port workers, maritime business services, naval architecture and engineering and a range of other disciplines.<\/p>\n
It will promoted to everyone from global CEOs to local careers offices, because there is a clear link between the two. No company can succeed without a constant flow of new talent, and the UK has the most advanced provision of training and education to help provide that new talent.<\/p>\n
The Shipping Minister, who is undertaking a range of activities this week to promote maritime skills, said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a fantastic opportunity for Government and industry to come together to showcase what the UK maritime sector and what it has to offer internationally. This Government is rightly proud of our skills offer \u2013 the variety of our training programmes, the breadth of career opportunities, our highly trained workforce and our outstanding maritime training institutions \u2013 the UK is very much Open for Maritime Skills.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maritime UK Chairman, Jeffrey Evans said:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that if we want to maintain our global status, we cannot solely celebrate what we have today \u2013 we have to create the tomorrow.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeaborne trade will double over the next twenty years. We have to take a big slice of that pie. And to do that, we have to be prepared. We have to redouble our efforts to attract new people into this industry and make full use of our world class colleges and universities, our incredible apprenticeships and innovative in-work professional development courses.\u201c<\/p>\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
