\"\"Dr Heike Deggim, Director of IMO’s Maritime Safety Division, speaking at the MPA Singapore’s Safety @ Sea week said yesterday\u00a0that 74 cases of seafarer abandonment had been reported to the IMO\/ILO so far this year. \u00a0“This was only during the first half of 2022, so, we can assume that this year we are heading towards surpassing 2021’s record of 95 cases,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Leading the discussion: ‘IMO and The Human Element: Where Do We Go from Here?’ Dr Deggim told the audience that a\u00a0joint IMO\/ILO tripartite working group has been re-established by\u00a0ILO and IMO to identify and address seafarer issues, and the human element. It will meet over the next two years in several sessions, \u00a0specifically to address guidelines on how to deal with seafarer abandonment cases.<\/p>\n
