{"id":18204,"date":"2018-03-06T16:10:37","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T16:10:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seafarersrights-over.temp-dns.com\/?page_id=18204"},"modified":"2018-03-06T16:15:31","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T16:15:31","slug":"finding-a-lawyer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/seafarersrights.org\/seafarers-subjects\/deaths-and-injuries-at-sea\/finding-a-lawyer\/","title":{"rendered":"Finding a Lawyer"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>How to find a Lawyer<\/h4>\n<p>If you are a seafarer or member of a seafarer\u2019s family and are seeking legal advice, there are two types of lawyer that can help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are claiming for personal injury\/death whilst working, in the place where the personal injury\/death occurred; and\/or one of the ports visited by the ship; and\/or the country where the employing company has its registered offices or its actual place of business, you will need to engage with a Personal Injury Lawyer<\/li>\n<li>If you are claiming for a marine casualty or incident in the port where the marine casualty or incident took place; and\/or the first port the ship berths at after a marine casualty or incident, you will need to engage the services of a Maritime Lawyer (with expertise in seafarers\u2019 claims)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Seafarers can find lawyers through the following:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Listed on the website of Seafarers\u2019 Rights International (SRI). <strong><a href=\"\/sri-legal-network\/\">Here<\/a><\/strong> you will find a list of lawyers\/law firms who have subscribed to a Charter of Good Practice for the Provision of Legal Services to Seafarers<\/li>\n<li>Listed in international guides and directories where specialist lawyers are set out and rated. Examples of these websites are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legal500.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.legal500.com<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chambersandpartners.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.chambersandpartners.com<\/a> (websites in English)<\/li>\n<li>Listed on the membership bodies or regulatory bodies of the legal profession in specific countries.
