Introduction to the\u00a0Maritime Labour Convention<\/strong><\/h3>\n
The so-called Seafarers\u2019 Bill of Rights marks a milestone in the drive to promote quality shipping and decent working conditions. In a single comprehensive instrument, the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) addresses whole spectrums of seafarers\u2019 work and life at sea including controversial issues such as social security and employer\u2019 liability. Importantly, the MLC seeks to abolish substandard shipping and foster fair competition for shipowners. Not surprisingly, compliance and implementation of the MLC is mutually beneficial for shipowners and seafarers. The Convention, reported as the fourth pillar of the international maritime regulatory regime together with SOLAS, MARPOL and STCW, has the potential to boost the prosperity of the maritime transport sector. First Meeting of the Joint ILO-IMO Tripartite Working Group to identify and address seafarers\u2019 issues and the human element, 13 \u2013 15 December 2022<\/a><\/h2>

Repatriation, Medical Care Ashore and Financial Security Lead the Proposed Amendments of the MLC in 2022<\/a><\/h2>

Pursuant to the goal of continuously strengthening the MLC, the ILO Special Tripartite Committee will meet between 5 \u2013 13 May 2022 to consider additional amendments to the Convention.
