The very nature of shipping, and the environments in which the industry operates, make seafaring one of the most dangerous professions in the world.<\/h3>\n

A great deal has been done by the IMO to improve safety of life at sea (SOLAS<\/a>) and publicly record how incidents are reported and managed, but there is still more to do to help seafarers, and their families, receive fair treatment in complex cases where compensation is sought.<\/p>\n

If seriously injured, or even killed in a work-related accident, then seafarers (or their dependents) may have to embark upon lengthy and complex litigation to seek compensation, at a time when health issues, stress or grief may be overwhelming.<\/p>\n
