Singapore’s bunker sales saw an increase of 9% year-on-year to 3.8 million tonnes for September 2015, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).<\/p>\n

The world’s largest bunkering hub’s September 2015 sales result marked the fourth highest ever monthly sales total. The highest sales record belonged to August’s bunker sales volume, which hit 4.2 million tonnes.<\/p>\n

The monthly cumulative surges in bunker sales volume for the first nine months (January to September) of 2015 added up to 33.5 million tonnes, up 5% as compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n

The MPA’s data also showed that the port’s most popular ship fuel grade, IFO380, grew by 9.8% year-on-year to 2.9 million tonnes in September 2015. Similarly, the 500 centistoke (CST) fuel grade sales soared by 8.7% to 736,000 tonnes for the month.<\/p>\n

The increase of the bunker sales may be buoyed by the rising port-of-calls for bunkering made in September at 3,385 calls, up 6% from 3,178 calls in the corresponding period last year.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the port of Singapore recorded a drop in container throughput in September 2015. The monthly throughput was reported as 2.4 million teu, down 13.6% as compared to 2.8 million teu in September 2014.<\/p>\n

Total throughput for the first nine months in 2015 dropped 6.46% to 23.5 million teu from 25.1 million teu in September 2014.<\/p>\n
